Turnkey Home Cinema

[Orlando, FL] CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles Designer Award GOLD Technical Design Integrated Home

At this 4,804 square foot waterfront property in Orlando, Florida we were able to transform a former exercise room into an impressive home theater designed for a full cinematic experience. Our skilled team provided and installed top quality equipment, acoustic treatments and custom lighting solutions all in just six weeks.

Converting a complicated space configuration into a home theater.

The clients wanted a dedicated theater with seating for seven and large screen suitable for immersive movies, sports and gaming. The location of the theater was a former exercise room that was open to a hallway with two large sliding glass doors and four windows in a bay configuration. The client set a very tight delivery schedule of just six weeks from design to delivery to complete the theater.

Projector System: A 1080P projector was installed with a high definition video processor and a performance projector screen, The front speakers were hidden behind an acoustically transparent screen providing a very accurate sound stage and optimal visual impact. The entire room has been treated with an adequate amount of absorption and reflection completely disguised behind sound suede fabric attached with an invisible track system.

Audio: The audio system features a digital surround sound receiver and high current power amplifier. Three matching front speakers and subwoofer were located behind the projection screen and two in-ceiling surround speakers. The program control system is able to operate the audio processor, source selection, surround audio modes and volume.

Sources: A new high definition TiVo with 180 hour capacity and a Blu-Ray disc player were installed with connection to the audio receiver and video processor. All of the room sources can be controlled through the touch panel system.

Control System: A new 3.8’ Crestron wireless touch panel with custom graphics and programming. The system operates the room’s audio, projector, video, lighting, and sources.

Lighting Control: A Crestron iLux integrated lighting system was installed to allow simple scene selection and light control by the entry door or from the touch panel.

Shades: Manual light blocking roller shades were installed to enable full light control of the sliding glass doors.

Calibration: Our highly trained technician adjusted all video and audio parameters for maximum performance in the theater. The audio calibration was performed to meet standards published by the Home Acoustics Alliance in a classic 5.1 configuration with 5 satellite

From the start of the installation, the home’s audio video was engineered to achieve industry reference standards for both audio and video performance. To meet the tight time schedule, we carefully coordinated framing, electrical, drywall, painting and millwork contractors so that as soon as each phase was complete the next could immediately begin. To create a workable shell, a wall was built to enclose the space and millwork was built in front of the bay windows that housed the screen, front speakers and subwoofer. The sliding glass doors where covered by blackout shades to block outside light. Drywall was removed behind the wainscoting to allow enough space for the chairs and the entry door at the rear of the room without everything looking cramped.

We worked closely with the client and interior designer to ensure the color selection would aide in making the room look good when the lights were on without picture quality degradation.

Creating a basic “home theater” is fairly simple, transforming an odd space makes it tricky, making it look and sound great is challenging, and doing it all in 6 weeks is nearly impossible. We were able to meet the client’s requests while maintaining our own design and quality standards by managing every aspect of the project. The result was a solution that matched exactly what the client was looking for in performance, aesthetics, and delivery.
