Traditional Styling Meets Technology

[Kissimmee, FL] CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles Designer Award GOLD Technical Design Integrated Home

Integration has a different meaning to everyone. The client in this case wanted their home in Kissimmee Florida to control all of their electronics on one single interface without complication.

Giving Newbies More Than They Expect from a Home Automation System

Initially the client thought a basic distributed audio system would meet their needs but after considerable time was spent educating the client, we were able to expand their working knowledge regarding the benefits of home-integrated technology.

As they better understood how we could integrate these separate systems and give them a single easy-to-use interface for all of their electronics, the focus shifted to a fully integrated system not just in the addition but for all entertainment, comfort and security aspects for the entire main house, guest house, and estate.”

The system is comprised of four Crestron distributed audio zones and three distributed audio/video zones. The video zones include 5.1-channel media room and two stereo rooms.

Every sub-system in the home was integrated with:

Touch Panels: Five touch panels control the electronic systems through either iPhone or web interfaces and integrate two-way voice control, pool/water feature controls, temperature zones, gate controls and motorized shades. The touch panels are located in the side entry, kitchen, his/her baths, the master bedroom, and media room. Each user interface is presented in the same format, with drop-down sub-menus for video, audio, comfort, lighting, security and pool control.

28 loads of lighting: A Crestron lighting control system features wireless exterior and interior dimmers positioned in various locations in the main house. The dimmers allow adjustments to be made to the home’s ambiance.

Security: The home’s current security system was upgraded to work with the Crestron system and made accessible on each touch screen throughout the home.  The video surveillance system features multiple cameras that allow the homeowner to view images from the main and guesthouse from any device. A front door call box with a color camera and a weatherproof camera for the pool area was installed for additional safety and security measures.  The surveillance system also features an eight channel DVR with Internet capability.

Televisions: A 42” flat panel TV was installed above the fireplace with a low profile mount and a 26” LCD TV was installed behind a mirror for the master bathroom.

While expanding the system, the biggest challenge of the project was the sheer number of change orders. Our needs analysis and engineering process is comprehensive, so change orders are usually kept to a minimum.

But since the scope of the entire project was constantly changing we had to keep up with making sure any newly requested scope was promptly bid, processed, engineered and implemented without delaying the overall process of the project.“

A client new to the possibilities of an integrated technologies system doesn’t usually understand what’s possible and what it takes to successfully incorporate a system. On this project each of the subsystems installed in the home were completely integrated into a single interface.
